For the picture on the left the lighting is a centered lighting in the middle of his face, and I like how the lighting draws emphasis on the persons face and isolates his expression. For the picture of the right, the lighting is a type of lighting called butterfly lighting. I like how the light is evenly distributed across her face and there are no dark spots. I also like how the light really reflects off of her eyes in a circular shape.
