Monika Merva Portrait Critique

This photo by Monika Merva is very successful in my eyes because of the composition. The level of blur in the background is very even and pleasant to look at with all of the colors of the books varying from light to dark. In the foreground-middle ground, the girl is centered well and the way she is slightly hunching really gives emotion and attitude to the girl's personality. The way she is dressed and looking straight at the camera makes the viewer think of the person as an actual person with an actual life. I think this photo is strong as a whole, but for my project I think I will make more photos that have stronger emotion or deadpan than the happy look on the girl's face. I am considering doing a theme of each photo being a different color monochromatic. I will look up the emotions and thoughts tied to each color and represent that in my project for each color.
