I chose this image by Jason DeMarte in 2007 called Cream Filled. The series is titled Utopic. I really enjoy this image because of the balance between the cream-filled sponge cake and the golden bears. One aspect that I think the photographer could have done better in is that he could have centered the bears and the sponge cakes a little better. I think that he succeeded in the aspect of variety throughout the image (i.e.- the semicircles along the bears' backs, the horizon line in the background, and the semicircles tracing the sponge-cakes). I also think that the photographer succeeded in using a shallow depth of field. My eyes are immediately drawn to the Bears and the cakes, but not as much as the background. An aspect that isn't particularly good or bad, is the difference in saturation between the sponge cakes and the bears. The cakes are extremely saturated, with the contrasting element of the unsaturated golden bears. Over all, this is a very powerful image because it makes me feel happy and calm again, agreeing the the title, Cream Filled.
