This photo is called Gothic Arches by Blaine Ellis. This was taken at Alcobaca Monastery in 2004. Ellis uses depth and lighting to create a very surreal feeling. The lack of color causes the only light to come from the back and spread through the tunnel. This causes the viewer's eye to move from the back of the piece to the front. The use of depth makes it surreal by causing the viewer by not being able to tell where the real back of the scene is. It may go on forever. The lighting and drain of color are great successes in this photo. The lines are a failure in this photo. You see more of the left column than the right, and the middle does not match up perfectly symmetrical.
