When I see this photo I feel sad. Not upset, not unsettled, but genuinely sad. The darker but natural lighting gives a feeling of perfect imperfection. The neutral tones dull down the feelings to near numbness. Then, the streaks of light give hope. The light illuminates the girl's face to see her pain, where the viewer is reminded that life is full of suffering. The rhythm of the light reminds me of a depressed melody in a song. The neutral tones remind me of a life with no color, the life being sucked out of something. This is a very sad photo.
